Compromised Connection

In order to hear clearly, you have to have a clear connection. One of my biggest pet peeves is having to repeat myself because of a bad connection. Interference can come from a wide variety of places, it can be worse based on the position you are in. Sometimes, the only way you can hear is when you silence everything else and turn the volume up on what you are listening to.

Our relationship with God is the same way. The only thing that separates us from God is sin. Any sin causes separation because God sees it all the same way. In our minds, some things are worse than others. We might think our “little white lie” is nothing in comparison to a murderer or rapist. But that that’s the difference: God is not comparing sin. He sees each of us individually and holds us accountable for the decisions we make. This is why should not think that someone else is a better or worse person than we are because of their actions. Comparison is for shopping, not living.

God’s communication is just like when you turn on the radio to listen to your favorite song. First, you have to make sure you are turned to the right station to hear from Him. You can’t tune your dial to the heavy metal station when you want to hear smooth jazz, that wouldn’t make any sense. So, if you want to hear from God you have to go straight to the source and cut out all interference.

The best way to do this is by prayer AND fasting!

People don’t talk about fasting very much anymore because it requires a large amount of obedience and sacrifice. There are different types of fasting and you will have to allow God to speak to you about what you need to give up for a given period of time. But a hint would be whatever you spend a large amount of your time doing. By denying yourself things you really want, you place your spirit in a sensitive position to focus on your connection with God.

As difficult as a fast is, the rewards outweigh the sacrifice. Being tuned in to God’s voice is extremely important and you have to remove the distractions that keep you from hearing. If you are in front of the television or on the internet more hours of the day than you spend with God, the majority will always win. God will not battle with the other transmissions in your life to get your attention.

I get frustrated when I am trying to talk to someone and I don’t have their undivided attention, so I cannot imagine how God feels when He is trying to talk to us. And even more important, we can’t say we love someone who we never spend quality time with. When you turn everything else off God seems so much nearer to you and when you are dealing with the weight of the world, His presence is your saving grace.

So, I challenge you to set aside a few hours each day this week to just soak in the presence of God.

Let me know how it goes!

With All My Love,
Mrs. Truscott
