Passion Looks Good on You
This is an excerpt from my book, Process to Your Purpose. Enjoy!
Confidence cannot be excluded from your
list of skills when you are transitioning from just “getting by” to living in a space of
abundant joy. Believing in yourself and the abilities that you have is a
priceless quality. Most people who have a passion for something they have not
been walking in have most likely experienced their dreams being shut down.
Maybe you were told that your passion was a “silly hobby” or a “get-rich-quick
scheme” that was of no value. So, now your confidence has to be rebuilt by a
person who may no longer believe in you, yourself. Insecurity is the biggest killer of passion
and purpose. Whatever is causing you to be insecure about your passion has to
be removed. Although it is true that greatness is birthed out of opposition you
never want to be the incubator for that opposition. If you have the ability to
remove the thing that is causing the insecurity, you have to do so. This is not
an optional activity. You might be saying that your past is what is causing the
insecurity, but I would challenge you to evaluate your viewpoint. What happened
in the past is what shaped you for your future. If those events had not
happened the way they did or those people treated you poorly, you would not
have had the motivation to search your heart for your purpose. The truth of the
matter is that everything happens for a reason. You didn’t get that job because
you would have been too comfortable and become complacent with your situation.
Live your life with no regrets about your past because you would not be who you
are without it. Certain disappointments and lost chances had to happen in order
for you to realize where you really belonged or where your passions truly lied.
Insecurity in your life may be a result of those that are close to you
discouraging you from using your gifts in a positive way. This is where the
removing has to come in. Someone that has your best interest at heart would
encourage you to pursue your passions, whatever they are.
Practicality should
definitely be present when discussing living on purpose but there is such a thing
as being “too safe”. Too safe is when you choose to take the job that you have
no desire to be in but it seems like a sure thing. Those that encourage you to
stay there instead of moving into your destiny have no place in your life. If
that’s too harsh for you, you can keep them around and hear their grumblings
from the sidelines. But, that’s too close for comfort. When things are
unpredictable, human nature kicks in and we run to the familiar. Familiar does not produce extraordinary. When you make the decision to live on purpose in
your purpose, naysayers cannot be present. It takes courage to step out on
faith and pursue something new and unfamiliar and the last thing you need is
someone whispering negativity in your ear or even being within earshot of their
negativity. Sometimes you have to just trust your instincts and do what your
spirit agrees with and anything contrary to that has to go.
