Will You Be My Valentine?
Valentine’s Day is this week and all around the world,
people will be searching for the perfect gift that shows their love for their
significant other. Millions of dollars are spent on flowers, candy, and other
trinkets that look like the love they carry for their mate. Some may even “pop
the question” on this International Day of Love. It is with great anticipation
that the 14th day of February approaches each year.
This is one of my favorite holidays because I love the idea
of love. I am in awe of what it truly represents. I am a sucker for love,
literally. I like to see how people take the time to shower their loved ones
with what they think their love looks like. It’s amazing to see how much
thought is put into planning and executing this day to perfection.
But even more, my mind drifts to the perfect love of Christ.
1 Corinthians 13:4-7 Love is patient, love is kind and is
not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, 5 It does not dishonor
others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of
wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It
always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Although Valentine’s Day sets the stage for people to
display their love, God showers us with His each and every day. He doesn’t wait
until February 14th to show us love because over 2000 years ago He
gave us the greatest gift of love. When He allowed His Son to die in our place,
it was the sweetest gesture ever known. But just when we couldn’t get a better
gift, He shook the grave to never leave us alone. His Spirit is always with us.
He loves us so much; He can’t bare to be without us.
When we look at the definition of love, all those qualities
make flowers, candy, and trinkets look like trash. The true treasure of love is
its ability to not quit. Love looks at you, not through rose-colored glasses,
but through the truth that only love can. It looks beyond the shadows of what
you used to be and into the light of who you will be. Love doesn’t care about
your relationship status because you belong to it. You belonged the day you
were thought of. Love allowed you to be created just to be loved.
Real love transcends a day on the calendar. How, you ask?
Because love existed before Valentine’s Day was created. As much as I love the
way people celebrate love, it pales in comparison to how God celebrates it.
You may be waiting for a gift, date, or note that will blow
your mind. But don’t be disappointed if you don’t receive. You have already
received The Ultimate. Open your gift mercy; remember your date of salvation;
take note of His grace.
Don’t allow who you’re with/not with or what you did/didn’t
receive determine if you had a valentine. The beauty of this day is that you
will always have a Valentine. Check the blood He shed!
Happy Valentines Day
With All My Love,
Mrs. Truscott
Happy Valentina's day. To think of the day that I got saved puts a cheese smile on my face.
