Spring Forward

Time waits for no one and there is no time like the present. When it’s time to make changes, it seems like it’s much easier to put things off for a later time. It makes sense to wait until you have all of your ducks in a row before you try to do something different. But, if you haven’t done it before today how will you do it now?

This past weekend, most of us in the United States had to “Spring Forward” because we are now in Daylight Savings Time. DST is a change in the standard time with the purpose of making better use of daylight and conserving energy. Clocks are set ahead one hour when DST starts. This means that the sunrise and sunset will be one hour later, on the clock, than the day before. Not only are there natural benefits, this is also a sign that a new season is upon us. The change in time alerts us to something new.

That’s exactly what happens in a lot of our lives. Other things go on around us that help alert us that something new is coming.

Isaiah 43:19 For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.

Could it be that what you are waiting for could have already happened? Why put off what needs to be done when the season for change is already upon you? Spring cleaning is not just something you do around your house; it’s something you have to do spiritually as well. You can’t spring forward holding on to the old baggage from a past season.

I always think it’s so interesting to see people wearing large coats and winter clothing when the sun has already made its appearance. But, like in the Scripture above, if you don’t perceive the new thing that God is doing you will continue to operate like you always have. You will keep carrying around the same old people, things, and attitudes like season of your past. You will keep waiting for the “perfect” time to do what God has already given you the power to do. The change that God allows us to make is so we can make better use of what He has already given us.

You have to evaluate what’s important to you and expose it to the light. Ephesians 5:13 But everything exposed by the light becomes visible--and everything that is illuminated becomes a light.

Spring is an opportunity to reveal those things that you hid away in winter. I don’t just mean the seasons according to the calendar but also those things that you kept hidden during the dark seasons of your life. It may have been a season of depression, low self-esteem, or unbelief. We all go through them but we run into trouble when they are not seasons, they become a part of who we are.  You can’t spring forward if you are still tied to what you’re supposed to leave behind.

Daylight Savings Time is a signal that something new is coming. The rest is up to you. We all have the choice whether to set our clocks forward or not. The world will continue to move and time will continue to tick by, whether we make the decision to change or not. You can choose to be left in the season that has past because you are waiting for what has already happened or you can spring forward and leave behind those things and people that have kept you in the darkness.

With All My Love,
Mrs. Truscott
