In Lust We Trust
Trust is formed when something/someone has proven that they
will consistently do what they claim they will do. When the expectations you
have are met, you can place your trust with them or in that situation. Trust is
strengthened over time as the person, place, or things proves to continue to be
trustworthy. Trust is vital to the success of any relationship, but what we’re
placing our trust in makes all of the difference.
On the back of all denominations of paper currency, the
words “In God We Trust” are printed. It’s so interesting that the very thing
that lures a lot of us away from God has God’s name printed on it. See, it’s
not that money is a problem; it’s when we place our trust in something other
than God. When see people who have more money, nicer clothes, a bigger house,
more friends, a “perfect” relationship and other things we think we want, we
start putting our trust in what our eyes see instead of what our spirit knows.
Instead of trusting in God, lust becomes our idol.
Everyone thinks that lust is just about sexual desires but
it’s not. It’s the passionate or overwhelming desire, of any kind. We all have
the potential to be controlled by lust, whether we’re single or married. As a
matter of fact, if marriage is used as a “cure” for lust the enemy uses that as
a catalyst. Lust is when your flesh convinces you that taking a shortcut is
better than waiting on God.
James 1:14 But each one is tempted when he is carried away
and enticed by his own lust.
Instead of trusting God with all of His promises, we start
trusting what lust screams from our hearts. Our sin nature makes us susceptible
to lust and temptation and if it satisfies our flesh (emotions, feelings) then
we think we HAVE to have it. But that’s where the lie comes in: everything that
feels good TO you isn’t good FOR you. A pretty package doesn’t always equate to
a healthy gift. When you see a 7 course meal with smells that entice you to eat
everything in one sitting, the meal may look good but the calories that come
along with it could have repercussions for the rest of your life.
That’s what trusting in lust does: it pursues temporary
pleasure without counting the eternal costs. You can’t afford to buy what lust
is selling, no matter how inexpensive it looks at the onset. There are deeper
issues to giving in to lust.
Lusting after a life that someone has will land you outside
of the will of God for YOUR life. Lusting for a relationship that someone else
is in, the calling on another person’s life, a person that isn’t your spouse, what
you think “they have” are all insulting to God. Lust takes a shortcut past the
process that God has in store for you to get to the promises that He has for
you. It’s not just about dirty dreams/thoughts about people…the enemy wants you
to place your trust in something other than God.
Matthew 5:28 But I say to you that everyone who
looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in
his heart.
The intention we have for our thoughts, words, and actions
reveal where your trust really lies. It doesn’t matter what you post on social
media if the innermost parts of your heart are trusting in something other than
God. Once you let lust take root in your heart, jealousy, envy, and other
impurities will soon take up residence there as well.
It’s up to you to place your trust in God for yourself.
Nothing should be stronger than God’s will for your life, no matter how good “it” looks to you.
The enemy is only able to tempt you and lure you in by what’s already in your
heart.
With All My Love,
Mrs. Truscott
I loved how insightful this post was. It did a great job at showing how lust is not only about sexual desire something that I had usually thought so. The post has overall challenged me to be content with the portion God has given me and not entertain lust which can come along jealousy and envy. Blessings to you woman of God Mrs. Truscott!
