SHUT IT DOWN
Boundaries define any relationship. Without fine lines
drawn, you will be in for a world of trouble. This is the way the world works;
it’s why we have laws. Without these rules and regulations in place people
would run into one another on the street, theft would be at an all-time high,
and moral crimes would be catastrophic.
Even though we may not agree with all
of them, boundaries are necessary to keep in order in any situation.
As parents, we set boundaries for our children. They have a
curfew and chores that must be done. In our marriages and dating relationships
we let our expectations be known up front so that our partner understands what
is acceptable and what is not. In these situations, there may be some
resistance but overall it works out to the benefit of all involved. As adults,
we can look back and see why our parents were so strict.
They wanted to keep us
from making unnecessary mistakes.
In my relationship with my husband, we have a few safeguards
in place that protect our union from external influences. One of them is no
phone calls made or received after a certain time of night. To some this may
seem extreme but it serves several purposes. Evening hours are our time devoted
to solely focus on one another without any distractions. In addition, this
gives us the opportunity to decompress from all of the day’s activities. We
pray and just enjoy one another. After all, everyone else has all day to
communicate with us it’s only fair to set aside a specified time for just us.
That’s how God feels about us.
The boundaries that He has set
in place for us are not to prevent us from enjoying life but, in contrast, for
us to have it more abundantly. God wants to shut down any opportunity for us to
live short of the life He desires for us to have. We don’t serve a God that
wants to keep us from fun but one that wants to keep us from unnecessary hurt
and pain.
The Ten Commandments are not meant to harm you but to increase the
style of your life
.
God is greater than any parent or spouse so when we look at
why He has given us the instructions He has; it’s to make us better. Just as
when you were a child, it may have seemed that your parent wanted to stop you
from living your life you may feel that way about God. But you have to grow up
and see the benefit of what God is doing in your life. He can see the end from
the beginning and knows things that we cannot even understand.
So, when you are
feeling like you are not experiencing life the way you’re supposed to, SHUT IT
DOWN!
Shut down the thoughts that are contrary to what God has
allowed in your life. Trust the plan He has for you, it is greater than anything
you could ever plan or want. Go get your life back. Don’t sulk in what you
can’t do, take pride in what you can do.
With All My Love,
Mrs. Truscott
