Girl Talk

The company that you keep says a lot about you. The old saying is “birds of a feather flock together”. This just means that people who have a lot in common have the tendency to be drawn to one another. There is an unspoken bond that exists between people who have the same circle of friends. It is very rare that you meet a group of people that have nothing in common but enjoy each other’s company.

As you mature, you will begin to understand what friendship truly means. Friendship has no universal meaning because everyone defines it differently. My definition of friendship can be totally different from someone else’s. However, we all must determine what our friends represent in our lives. In the judicial system, someone can be convicted of a crime because they are guilty by association. This is true in regard to the positive and negative characteristics of your friends. True friends are those that hold you accountable and make you a better person. Friends are gifts from God. Proverbs 27:17 says “Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another”. Clay cannot sharpen iron because it is too soft. If hot iron is placed against clay, the clay will melt and the remainder of the clay will be stuck to the iron.

Many of the relationships that we are involved in are not fulfilling. They are one-sided where you are pouring into someone and they are not returning the favor. Just as with any other relationship, friendships should bring out your best qualities at all times. When you need advice, you should be able to call your friends and trust that the information they are giving you is valuable because they love you and want the best for you. One of the worst feelings in the world is to feel that you are being a friend but do not feel that the friendship is being reciprocated. Your friendships should help you grow into the woman that God created you to be. They should nurture and help you cultivate the gifts that are inside of you. Encouragement is the key when you are stepping into a new chapter of life and beginning to do things differently. As you grow, your friends should grow along with you.

You cannot expect to soar like an eagle if you are hanging around a bunch of chickens. Chickens are not created to fly; they are yard birds that are raised for a sole purpose of being devoured by someone else. Eagles fly at an altitude that is stifling to those that are destined to be in that area. Eagles are birds of prey while also being so rare that they are prohibited from being caged. Chickens cannot become eagles, they will always be chickens. As you begin to fly to new heights, you will encounter other eagles. You have the choice to make: remain on the ground with the yard birds or to accept your destiny and fly like the eagle you were created to be.

With All My Love,
