Simon Says
I’m not sure if they play this game today but when I was
younger there was a game called “Simon Says”. In this game there would be
several players and 1 “Simon”. Simon would give instructions that would lead
the players to the finish line. If the players explicitly followed the
instructions they could win the game. The catch was you could only do the
things that “Simon” said, so if an instruction was given without the phrase
“Simon says” at the beginning, the players were not supposed to move. But most
of the time, the players would get so excited to get to the finish line that
they overlooked the fact that “Simon” may not have said. If that happened, the
player or players who didn’t follow “Simon’s” instructions would have to start
all over.
Although that is a children’s game we can apply those same
concepts to our life. But instead of Simon, we are listening for what God says.
Lots of times we get a thought or piece of advice that sounds good and is
appealing and we move on it before we have heard from God. By the time we
realize that we are outside of God’s will, we have to go back to the drawing
board.
Proverbs 16:20 “Whoever gives heed to instruction prospers,
and blessed is he who trusts in the LORD”.
The truth is that God gives us instructions all of the time.
He tells us who to speak to, who to let go, where to move, who to marry, and
when to do it all but we aren’t always listening. And even when we do hear God,
we aren’t always happy with the instructions.
Do you trust God enough to pass up what/who God rejects?
One phase of a relationship with the living God is hearing
His instructions. We have to take the time to get our ear tuned to hear from
Him. You have to be able to silence your surroundings or God will do it for
you. Sometimes, God will speak to you loud and clear but for those times when
He is a still, small voice you have to be able to listen for His voice.
John 10:27 “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and
they follow Me”.
After you hear from God, you HAVE to heed His instructions and
follow Him. Without obeying what God says you cannot call yourself one of His.
We get ourselves into lots of trouble because we don’t wait for God to say and
when He does, we only do what we think is best.
Life is not a game, it’s a process that always has a
purpose. If God tells you to do something, as His child, you have to obey no
matter how painful it is. Telling God “no” cannot be an option. When you fell
in love with Him the only response you left yourself with was “yes” and “amen”.
If you don’t listen to God’s voice how will He know that you are His?
With All My Love,
Mrs. Truscott
